FARGO, N.D. – Registration continues for the Fargo Warriors Lacrosse Club’s spring 2013 competitive high school varsity, Under-15 and Under-13 teams. Opportunities are still available for boys or girls to play on one of the three competitive teams, but registration ends March 1.
The Warriors’ varsity team is open to boys or girls in ninth through 12th grade; however, the club will roster up to only 25 players per team. If more than 25 players register, team tryouts may be held. Those in grades 10-12 will be given preference over those in ninth grade since the club also will field a U15 team for players born on Sept. 1, 1997 or after.
The U13 team is for boys or girls who are born no earlier than Sept. 1, 1999.
Costs to register are $320 for the varsity team, $280 for the U15 team and $250 for the U13 team. Registration fees cover indoor rental fees, outdoor field fees, referee fees for league games, league participation fees, tournament fees, goals, nets, balls, coaching and all game fees.
Registration fees do not cover player equipment; however, the club does have a limited number of sets of sticks, arm pads, shoulder pads and gloves available for use at no cost. Also, helmets for varsity players will be provided as they were donated by Scheels to assist the team start-up two years ago.
Players will be responsible for their own travel costs, including transportation, meals and hotel charges for away games, including tournaments. (See the Warriors’ 2013 spring schedule here.) Players also would have to pay for travel costs to Minneapolis in June should the varsity team make the Minnesota Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association playoffs.
Players interested should register as early as possible as tryouts for varsity will be held as early as January during the club’s annual winter indoor clinic. The Warriors’ first games will be in April.
Additionally, those who would otherwise qualify for the U15 team may be able to play on the varsity team under a number of conditions. U15 players wishing to play varsity should register for the varsity team but recognize that they may be placed on the U15 team.
The club also is pushing to add a U13 team team to give younger players an opportunity to play competitively and gain experience in a live-game setting. Younger players are the future of the Warrior club and its’ the club’s goal to build opportunities for younger players to excel in lacrosse.
The upcoming spring season marks the Warriors third competitive season in the MBSLA. Fargo plays in the league’s North Conference with Grand Cities of Grand Forks, N.D., Duluth, Proctor, Grand Rapids and Brainerd.
